Rec teams up with the City of Torrance to power up pickleball and tennis
Rec is thrilled to announce that we're partnering with the City of Torrance to make it easier for local residents to discover places to play sports, pick up new hobbies and connect with their community.
Working together with the City of Torrance
Rec has been collaborating with the City of Torrance Parks & Recreation Department over the past months to re-imagine how residents find and participate in popular sports like tennis and pickleball. We've also spent time in Torrance with local pickleball players and community members to get direct feedback from residents.
Our partner at the City of Torrance, Garrett Craig, Community Services Manager told us "Our mission is to create and enrich our community through people, programs and partnerships. Working with Rec gives us access to technology and helps us create a seamless user experience that significantly enhances the community experience and use of our courts. We're looking forward to seeing more Torrance residents out on the courts, picking up new hobbies and most importantly having fun."
The City of Torrance's Recreation Services Division knows their community and sports. Rec understands technology and how to create seamless user experiences and a platform that empowers coaches and the community. The combination is incredibly powerful to boost community access to sports and facilities for everyone.
Pickleball programming and lessons on local courts at rec.us/torranceca
Starting today, Torrance residents can visit rec.us/torranceca to access:
A dynamic calendar of the court schedule, with info about how courts are being used for organized open-play, when lessons are happening, or when they are free for first-come first-serve play.
Torrance Learning & Practice Hub
Pickleball classes for all levels. Beginner, intermediate and drills lessons will be available starting on dedicated courts at Wilson Park and Sur La Brea Park. For the first month of this partnership, Rec will be providing free weekly "Intro to Pickleball" lessons in partnership with a local pickleball instructor.
1:1 and small group instruction - Take a lesson from a growing roster of pickleball and tennis coaches - with guaranteed court time during new instructional hours available at several courts across the city.
Connecting players - By allowing players to submit their skill ratings, Rec will begin tailoring sessions to enable community members of the same skill level to connect and play together in coordinated games.
At Rec, we're all about building community through the power of sports. That's why we're excited to team up with the City of Torrance to make it even easier for people to use local pickleball courts to meet up and play with others in the community and access best-in-class learning opportunities. We're looking forward to continuing our work and innovation with forward-thinking Parks & Rec departments, like in Torrance.
